Naturopathic Support for Pregnancy and Postnatal Care

Pregnancy is a significant life transition that is a unique experience for each individual woman. In the lead up to pregnancy and/or once pregnant, many women become much more aware of their body and its amazing abilities. During pregnancy, it is also common to become particularly mindful of your diet and lifestyle habits, as your choices now have a direct impact on the health of your baby.
There are many dietary and lifestyle habits that can support the healthy development of your baby, as well as supporting your overall health and wellbeing. Pregnancy is such an important time to focus on fueling your body with wholefoods that provide all of the nutrients your body (and your growing baby’s body) needs. You might be feeling a little bit confused and maybe a bit overwhelmed thinking about what foods to eat during your pregnancy (and what foods to avoid). Our Naturopaths can work with you to implement an achievable eating plan that is rich in nutrients essential for pregnancy, including folate, vitamin C, zinc, calcium, iron, iodine, DHA (an essential fat) and protein. Due to the fact that many nutrients are required in higher quantities during pregnancy, it is now widely recommended for all women to take a pregnancy multivitamin.
Many of the pregnancy multivitamin supplements on the market may contain excipients. Excipients are active ingredients that do not provide any therapeutic benefit, but are added to the formula so the ingredients ‘bind’ together, to lubricate the tablets, and/or to improve the palatability. Excipients make up over half the ingredients in some supplements! As well as this, excipients do not have to be listed as part of the formula so you may not know exactly what is in your pregnancy multivitamin. Our Naturopaths use practitioner-grade supplements that contain low excipient formulas. As well as this, the forms of nutrients used in practitioner-grade supplements are highly-absorbable and gentle on the stomach.

Some women breeze through the process of pregnancy, while others struggle with physical signs and symptoms, such as:

  • Morning sickness
  • Fatigue
  • Migraines
  • Bleeding
  • Edema
  • Heartburn
  • Haemorrhoids
  • Elevated blood pressure
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Sciatica
  • Backache
  • Pelvic pain
  • Joint pains

If any of the above arise for you, our Naturopaths can provide trusted advice on natural treatments that may provide relief, allowing you to enjoy your pregnancy. We will always work in conjunction with your doctor, midwife, and/or obstetrician to ensure you receive the best possible care.
As well as this, our Naturopaths can support you in your postnatal health journey. In order to take care of a newborn, you need to take care of yourself first. Natural treatments can work effectively to address any complications that may arise after you have given birth, such as anxiety, depression, lactation issues, hemorrhoids, constipation, joint pain, abdominal pain, or excessive bleeding.
