Psychologist Therrie Rosenvald offers support with Therapy Dog, Toffee.
Therrie’s passion was to combine her desire to help people with her love of animals. She firmly believes that the human/animal bond has countless beneficial effects on people with emotional imbalance. Therefore, Therrie works on some days with her certified therapy dog, Toffee (with client consent).
Toffee is a 16-month old female medium Australian Cobberdog (labradoodle). Cobberdogs have a beautiful, loyal and gentle nature. The Australian Cobberdog has been carefully and purposely bred to assist people with special needs. As a Cobberdog, Toffee has an intuitive ability to feel the emotions of people she comes in contact with. She “feels” the presence of sickness, sadness and joy, and responds by cuddling up, playing or just staying close. She makes eye contact to connect with the clients and will respond to the client’s expressions and body language.
Toffee has a non-shedding, allergy friendly wool coat that is soft and silky to touch. Therrie and Toffee have completed an intensive course through Therapy Dogs Australia and are certified as handler and Therapy Dog. Toffee is still young and has only recently graduated as therapy dog. Soon afterwards she has whelped nine puppies so her interest was elsewhere. Toffee will be gradually eased into her role as therapy dog and therefore will not be present every day.
With client consent, Toffee assists Therrie in the delivery of evidence based psychological interventions by helping clients with their emotional regulation.
