Psychologist – Heather Rees

Heather has completed a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) at The University of Queensland and went on to specialise in a Master of Psychology (Clinical) at the Australian Catholic University. Heather has over six years of experience working for private practice, government and community mental health organisations. She has a strong interest in working with adolescents and young adults to increase their wellbeing, mental health, independence and resilience.

Heather began her career in a small rural town in north-west NSW where she worked with a range of children, adolescents and their parents and caregivers to deliver therapeutic interventions and psychological and behavioural assessments. Heather provided consultations with staff and managers and delivered training packages to both staff and local families. Additionally, Heather has had experience delivering evidence-based interventions and care co-ordination to children and adults with various presentations and diagnoses across Headspace, Allied Psychological Service (ATAPS) and Employee Assistance (EAPS) programs. Heather moved to Sydney to complete her Masters program in which her placements provided further experience in these areas and developed her skills to facilitate therapeutic groups for children and adolescents.

Heather grew up on the Sunshine Coast and has enjoyed moving back to her hometown and showing her family all the benefits of a coastal lifestyle. She enjoys spending time with family and friends and her two puppies.

Heather is trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Motivational Interviewing and is currently undertaking further training in Schema Therapy. Heather utilises these evidence-based interventions to develop therapeutic goals and assist in working towards these goals whilst helping clients to feel supported and empowered in the process. Heather values health, resilience and wellbeing and would love to see if she can help you with your therapy goals.
