Kristy is a registered psychologist with over 15 years-experience working as a clinician, educator and supervisor in non-government organisations and private settings within Australia and New Zealand.
Kristy has a strong interest in working with women struggling with feelings of stress, overwhelm, burnout, poor body image, poor work-life balance, sleep difficulties, binge eating, emotional eating, a history of chronic dieting, and/or a sense of not being able to trust themselves around food. She enjoys brining evidence-based mindfulness strategies to these issues and is certified in the Mindfulness Based Eating Awareness Training (MB-EAT).
Kristy has been trained in a number of evidence-based approaches, but her therapeutic style often leans toward mindfulness based cognitive behaviour therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness Based Eating Awareness Training (MB EAT). These approaches value the development of self compassion and non-judgement in coping with difficult feelings as well as working proactively toward a building a meaningful life. They focus on developing ‘inner wisdom’ with regard to managing difficult inner experiences and ‘outer wisdom’ with regard to developing knowledge and skills. Regardless of the approach, Kristy is deeply committed to providing a safe, empathic and non-judgemental space from which you can explore yourself and the ways you interact in the world; to discover what you enjoy about yourself; learn to accept all of you (even the messy, ugly bits); and to confront your fears and discover things you would like to change.
Kristy has had training in the following evidence-based approaches and will work with you to determine the approach that best fits your needs:
Person-Centred Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness Based Eating Awareness Training (MB_EAT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Biofeedback, Mindfulness and deep relaxation, Trauma therapy (phased and prolonged exposure therapy).
Kristy has experience and a strong interest in working with adult clients presenting with:
. stress, overwhelm and burnout
. problematic relationships with food and eating (emotional eating)
. Adjustment difficulties and life transitions
. grief and loss
