Stuart Le Marseny is a psychologist (registration # PSY0001660417), specialising in assessing and treating trauma and facilitating behavioural change with the objective of promoting changes in the behaviour of individuals that benefit the person, and those they interact with. The author has completed extensive training with the Australian Psychological Society (APS) the United Nations (UN), the Australian Red Cross (ARC) and the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in trauma response and treatment.
Stuart has undertaken trauma response work for organisations including the World Health Organization (WHO), the Australian Red Cross, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Cresent Societies, the United Nations, and the Burnet Institute for Medical Research and Public Health. Stuart has also been deployed internationally by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to the United Nations emergency response unit based in Southeast Asia to undertake this role.
Stuart has held indigenous specific mental health diagnosis and treatment qualifications for over 10 years. Stuart has worked in urban and remote indigenous communities, including designing, and implementing the Wellbeing Centre project for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, in Cape York and Torres Strait, and managing all Indigenous programs in Queensland for the Australian Red Cross.
The qualifications and experience of the Stuart to undertake assessments in a manner that focuses on the welfare of those most vulnerable, is acknowledged by being appointed (and successively reappointed on three occasions) from 2019 to February 2027 to advise the ACT commissioner for vulnerable persons on matters regarding mental health and vulnerable persons.
Being appointed to an initial 5-year term and being reappointed to a second 5-year term, from August 2020 to August 2030 to provide expert advice to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal judicial members, on protecting the clients of mental health professionals and vulnerable persons.
Being appointed in 2021 by the Department of Justice and Attorney General to the panel tasked with implementing the recommendations from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, regarding vulnerable persons when providing evidence in judicial proceedings.

The University of New South Wales Indigenous Law Bulletin, and the Australian Indigenous Law Review.
