Unmanaged and ongoing anger creates problems for you and others around you and can significantly impact your health, your relationships and your life. Anger can also get in the way of dealing with problems effectively and can, in fact, make the problem worse.

Our team of Sunshine Coast Psychologists are trained in providing psychological support if you feel your anger is out of control. Your psychologist works with you to assess if your anger is a problem and helps you identify the triggers and early warning signs of your anger. You will learn how to express your anger in other ways that enable you to live a healthy and happy life.

There are a number of different techniques that can be used with children to deal with mental health conditions and other psychological and behavioural issues. These tend to be used to help children to develop emotional regulation, resilience, confidence, relaxation and relationship skills.

Depression, also known as major depressive disorder or clinical depression, is one of the most common mental health disorders in Australia.  Fortunately, with the right support, depression is a highly treatable condition.

The cause of depression is multifactorial, meaning there may be genetic, biological, psychological, social and environmental factors contributing. Major life trauma, stress and change can be a trigger for depression. People with chronic disease, such as cancer, heart disease and other debilitating illnesses are at an increased risk of depression, as are those with a family history of depression.

Our Sunshine Coast psychologists understand the daily struggles of living with depression. There are varying severities, but importantly therapy has been shown to be an effective method of treating depression.

Many people find that talking to others can help the healing process, and the support of family and friends is integral. Professional help is available and recommended if your feelings of grief and loss are intense and long-lasting, if you feel overwhelmed with pain or as though you will never recover from your grief, if you are avoiding/finding it hard to grieve, or if you find it hard to participate in day-to-day activities.

Professional support, such as seeing a Psychologist, can help you to move through the grieving process and thus allow you to move forward. Seeking support early is important as long-term or overwhelming grief can significantly impact your overall health, however, seeking support at any stage, no matter how long ago you experienced loss, can provide relief. Our Sunshine Coast Psychology are here to support you.

If you are experiencing symptoms of OCD and find that they are affecting your work, school, or home life, our Psychologist Sunshine Coast team are here to help. Our Psychologists are empathetic, non-judgmental and confidential. CBT has been shown to be an effective tool for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Becoming a parent involves a roller coaster of emotions such as excitement, joy, stress, anxiety and apprehension. Emotional distress, also known as the ‘baby blues’, is common during the first few days after giving birth, causing new mothers to feel overly sensitive, teary, overwhelmed and moody. For most women, this experience is a normal part of the process and should dissipate within a few days. If these feelings are affecting your day-to-day functioning or have still not lifted after a few weeks, it is worth speaking to a trusted healthcare professional about support that is available.

Seeking support early is important, as postnatal depression and anxiety can impact not only your mental wellbeing, but also your relationship with your partner and your baby. Plus, it can be an extremely overwhelming and isolating experience as you try to cope with your own symptoms as well as adjusting to and caring for a new baby (and sometimes other children). Postnatal depression is nothing to be ashamed of and there is nothing “wrong” with you. It is important to remember that postnatal depression is a temporary medical condition and fortunately, with the right support, it is treatable.

If untreated, PTSD can have a significant impact on one’s life, causing ongoing problems, including relationship problems, physical conditions (headaches and fatigue), sleep problems, difficulty working/working too much, and other mental health conditions, such as anxiety, depression or substance abuse.

We work collaboratively with you to develop and implement effective treatments that enable you to manage and recover from PTSD. Specific psychological treatments that have been proven to benefit those with PTSD include trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), and exposure therapy.

We have numerous psychologists that have a keen interest in the area of PTSD. Contact us to work out who would be best for your needs.

  • Complete Psychological assessments- including for Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Acute and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders, Borderline Personality Disorder, Dissociative Disorders and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and ADHD in both children and adults.

Psychologist Ambrose is well versed in the area of relationship counselling.

A psychologist or counsellor can provide professional support to help you understand the condition and implement and practise specific evidence-based techniques that will enable you to manage your social anxiety and bring about lasting change. This may include developing skills and techniques for managing anxiety, simple lifestyle changes, and using psychological therapies such as mindfulness techniques and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).

It is common to feel like there is no end to chronic stress, however, there are a number of treatment approaches that have been proven to effectively reduce and manage stress. It is often not as simple as saying “stress less”. Rather, a thorough approach to stress management will enable you to feel empowered to identify and manage stressors and stress, ensuring you can lead a balanced life that supports your overall health and wellbeing.

Psychology therapy has been shown to be an effective tool to help with coping with everyday stress and well as complex and chronic stress. Please reach out to our Sunshine Coast Psychology team and we can assist you in finding the best fit psychologist for you.

People who are eligible for a mental health care plan can receive up to 10 individual or group therapy sessions covered under Medicare in one calendar year. Once these have been used, there are other incentives through medicare that you may be eligible for such as an Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC).

We do offer a limited number of bulk billing sessions (subject to criteria)

A mental health care plan is a plan that your GP writes about treating and managing a mental health condition.

It enables you to access certain allied health professionals, such as psychologists, social workers or occupational therapists who can provide you with psychological support.

Mental health care plans are a part of the Better Access initiative, which aims to improve access to mental health care services through Medicare.  Read More
