Therapy Services Offered in our Sunshine Coast Clinics

Our Psychologists are highly trained and experienced in the area of ADHD diagnosis and psychological intervention. We consult with adults, teens and children to support various areas of ADHD such as attention, forgetfulness, impulsive behaviours and organisational skills.

Anxiety is the most common mental health condition in Australia. There are many different treatments available and our experienced team will work closely with you to support you to better health. We offer a broad range of techniques such as CBT and ACT to help you.

We have a special interest in the diagnosis and support of autism. We believe in supporting the individual and their families. Some of our psychologists have completed additional training to ensure they are well equipped to support you or your child.

Unmanaged and ongoing anger creates problems for you and others around you and can significantly impact your health, your relationships and your life. Anger can also get in the way of dealing with problems effectively and can, in fact, make the problem worse.

Our team of Sunshine Coast Psychologists are trained in providing psychological support if you feel your anger is out of control. Your psychologist works with you to assess if your anger is a problem and helps you identify the triggers and early warning signs of your anger. You will learn how to express your anger in other ways that enable you to live a healthy and happy life.

Depression, also known as major depressive disorder or clinical depression, is one of the most common mental health disorders in Australia.  Fortunately, with the right support, depression is a highly treatable condition.

The cause of depression is multifactorial, meaning there may be genetic, biological, psychological, social and environmental factors contributing. Major life trauma, stress and change can be a trigger for depression. People with chronic disease, such as cancer, heart disease and other debilitating illnesses are at an increased risk of depression, as are those with a family history of depression.

Our Sunshine Coast psychologists understand the daily struggles of living with depression. There are varying severities, but importantly therapy has been shown to be an effective method of treating depression.

Many people find that talking to others can help the healing process, and the support of family and friends is integral. Professional help is available and recommended if your feelings of griefandloss are intense and long-lasting, if you feel overwhelmed with pain or as though you will never recover from your grief, if you are avoiding/finding it hard to grieve, or if you find it hard to participate in day-to-day activities.

Professional support, such as seeing a Psychologist, can help you to move through the grieving process and thus allow you to move forward. Seeking support early is important as long-term or overwhelming grief can significantly impact your overall health, however, seeking support at any stage, no matter how long ago you experienced loss, can provide relief. Our Sunshine Coast psychology team is here to support you.

If you are experiencing symptoms of OCD and find that they are affecting your work, school, or home life, our psychology team on the Sunshine Coast is here to help. Our Psychologists are empathetic, non-judgmental and confidential. CBT has been shown to be an effective tool for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Becoming a parent involves a roller coaster of emotions such as excitement, joy, stress, anxiety and apprehension. Emotional distress, also known as the ‘baby blues’, is common during the first few days after giving birth, causing new mothers to feel overly sensitive, teary, overwhelmed and moody. For most women, this experience is a normal part of the process and should dissipate within a few days. If these feelings are affecting your day-to-day functioning or have still not lifted after a few weeks, it is worth speaking to a trusted healthcare professional about support that is available.

Seeking support early is important, as postnatal depression and anxiety can impact not only your mental wellbeing, but also your relationship with your partner and your baby. Plus, it can be an extremely overwhelming and isolating experience as you try to cope with your own symptoms as well as adjusting to and caring for a new baby (and sometimes other children). Postnatal depression is nothing to be ashamed of and there is nothing “wrong” with you. It is important to remember that postnatal depression is a temporary medical condition and fortunately, with the right support, it is treatable.

If untreated, PTSD can have a significant impact on one’s life, causing ongoing problems, including relationship problems, physical conditions (headaches and fatigue), sleep problems, difficulty working/working too much, and other mental health conditions, such as anxiety, depression or substance abuse.

We work collaboratively with you to develop and implement effective treatments that enable you to manage and recover from PTSD. Specific psychological treatments that have been proven to benefit those with PTSD include trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), and exposure therapy.

We have numerous psychologists that have a keen interest in the area of PTSD. Contact us to work out who would be best for your needs.

Our team of highly trained and friendly Psychologists are able to offer an array of assessments. Including (but not limited to):

  • Complete Psychological assessments- including for Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Acute and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders, Borderline Personality Disorder, Dissociative Disorders and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and ADHD in both children and adults.
  • Children’s social, emotional, language and cognitive functioning (all aspects of child developmental assessments)
  • Medico-legal assessments
  • Stress investigations
  • Cognitive functioning assessments
  • IQ Tests (Children and adults)
  • Needs assessment
  • Vocational assessment
  • Personality assessment
  • Parenting Styles assessment

Whether you feel as though your relationship is truly on the rocks and couples counselling is your last shot, or you simply know that your connection and partnership could be enhanced with professional support, our dedicated team of psychologists can help you.

Psychologist Ambrose is well versed in the area of relationship counselling.

A psychologist or counsellor can provide professional support to help you understand the condition and implement and practise specific evidence-based techniques that will enable you to manage your social anxiety and bring about lasting change. This may include developing skills and techniques for managing anxiety, simple lifestyle changes, and using psychological therapies such as mindfulness techniques and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).

It is common to feel like there is no end to chronic stress, however, there are a number of treatment approaches that have been proven to effectively reduce and manage stress. It is often not as simple as saying “stress less”. Rather, a thorough approach to stress management will enable you to feel empowered to identify and manage stressors and stress, ensuring you can lead a balanced life that supports your overall health and wellbeing.

Psychology therapy has been shown to be an effective tool to help with coping with everyday stress and well as complex and chronic stress. Please reach out to our psychology team on the Sunshine Coast and we can assist you in finding the best fit psychologist for you.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is one of the most widely researched and effective forms of psychological treatment. CBT helps you identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to emotional distress.

Best for: Anxiety, depression, panic attacks, phobias, OCD, PTSD, eating disorders, and chronic pain.

What to expect: Structured, goal-oriented sessions (typically 12-20) with practical homework exercises to build lasting skills.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is a modern, mindfulness-based approach that helps you develop psychological flexibility. Rather than trying to eliminate difficult thoughts and feelings, ACT teaches you to accept them while committing to actions that align with your values.

How ACT Works: Our psychologists guide you through six core processes: acceptance, cognitive defusion (separating from unhelpful thoughts), being present, self-as-context, values clarification, and committed action. This approach helps you stop struggling against your internal experiences and start living a meaningful life.

Best For: Chronic pain, anxiety, depression, stress, workplace burnout, relationship difficulties, and anyone seeking greater life satisfaction and purpose.

What to Expect: ACT sessions are interactive and experiential. You’ll engage in mindfulness exercises, metaphors, and values-based activities. Many clients find ACT particularly helpful when traditional approaches haven’t fully addressed their concerns.

Schema Therapy is an integrative approach that addresses deep-rooted patterns and core beliefs developed in childhood. It’s particularly effective for long-standing emotional difficulties and relationship patterns that seem to repeat throughout your life.

How Schema Therapy Works: Our trained psychologists help you identify your “schemas” — deeply held beliefs about yourself and the world formed in early life. Through a compassionate, nurturing therapeutic relationship, we work to heal these patterns and develop healthier ways of meeting your emotional needs.

Best For: Personality disorders, chronic depression, complex trauma, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, abandonment issues, and patterns of self-sabotage.

What to Expect: Schema Therapy is typically a longer-term approach, often involving 6-12 months or more. Sessions include imagery work, behavioral pattern-breaking, and the development of a “healthy adult” mode to guide your decisions and relationships.

EMDR is a powerful, evidence-based therapy specifically designed to help people recover from trauma and PTSD. It’s recognized by the World Health Organization and the American Psychological Association as an effective treatment for traumatic stress.

How EMDR Works: EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements, but can also use tapping or sounds) to help your brain reprocess traumatic memories. This allows distressing memories to be integrated in a way that reduces their emotional impact, without requiring you to talk in detail about the trauma.

Best For: PTSD, trauma (single incident or complex), anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, grief and loss, disturbing memories, and performance anxiety.

What to Expect: EMDR follows an eight-phase protocol. After preparation and establishing safety, your psychologist will guide you through reprocessing traumatic memories while you follow their finger movements or other bilateral stimulation. Many clients experience significant relief in fewer sessions than traditional talk therapy.

Mindfulness-based therapies teach you to pay attention to the present moment with openness, curiosity, and acceptance. These approaches are integrated throughout our therapeutic work and can be particularly transformative for stress, anxiety, and emotional regulation.

How Mindfulness Works: Our psychologists teach you practical mindfulness techniques including breath awareness, body scanning, mindful movement, and meditation. These skills help you respond to stress more effectively and reduce rumination about the past or worry about the future.

Best For: Stress management, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, insomnia, emotional regulation difficulties, and enhancing overall wellbeing.

What to Expect: You’ll learn simple, practical exercises you can use daily. No special equipment or beliefs are required — mindfulness is a skill anyone can develop with practice.

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy is a goal-oriented approach that focuses on solutions rather than problems. It’s particularly effective when you want practical strategies and relatively quick results.

How SFBT Works: Rather than dwelling on problems and their causes, our psychologists help you identify what’s already working in your life and build on those strengths. We explore your preferred future and the small steps you can take to move toward it.

Best For: Goal achievement, relationship difficulties, workplace stress, life transitions, parenting challenges, and situations where you want focused, time-limited therapy.

What to Expect: SFBT is typically brief (5-10 sessions) and highly practical. You’ll leave each session with clear actions to take and a sense of progress toward your goals.
