Methylation is a very important biochemical process that is happening in your body all the time. A scientific explanation of methylation is the transfer of a methyl group to another compound. This process is important for numerous functions in the body including (but definitely not limited to) the function of your nervous system, producing energy, healthy fat metabolism (e.g. maintaining healthy cholesterol levels), the body’s ability to process medication, and also repairing DNA. Research is now showing that an individual’s methylation activity (e.g. high or low) can affect many systems of the body, and may be the cause for signs and symptoms that have an unknown cause. Therefore, I believe it is important to assess your body’s methylation activity to ensure we have all the pieces of the puzzle.
