How can Occupational Therapy help?

Helping make everyday life easier

Occupational Therapy is about helping people participate more fully in the everyday activities that matter to them.

In Occupational Therapy, an β€œoccupation” means the everyday things we need, want or are expected to do.

For a child, that might mean getting dressed, holding a pencil, participating at school, playing, managing sensory input or completing everyday routines.

For a teenager or adult, goals might relate to study, work, organisation, self-care, routines, community participation or becoming more independent.

Our Sunshine Coast Occupational Therapy service focuses on understanding where daily life is becoming difficult and developing realistic, individualised strategies to help you or your child work towards meaningful goals.

Occupational Therapy may support:

  • Sensory processing and regulation
  • Fine and gross motor development
  • Handwriting and pencil skills
  • Emotional regulation
  • Executive functioning
  • Planning and organisation
  • Self-care and daily living skills
  • School and study participation
  • Routines and transitions
  • Greater everyday independence

Children's Occupational Therapy Sunshine Coast

Helping children build skills for everyday life

Childhood is filled with everyday activities that help children learn, play, connect and become more independent.

Sometimes a child needs additional support to develop the skills required to participate comfortably and confidently at home, at school or in the community.

Children's Occupational Therapy looks at the whole child β€” their strengths, development, environment, sensory preferences and the everyday activities they are finding difficult.

Therapy can then focus on practical, age-appropriate goals that are meaningful to the child and their family.
