What to expect

Our Learning Assessment Process

Initial Consultation

Discuss learning concerns, developmental and educational history, and whether an assessment is suitable.

Standardised Testing

Assess relevant cognitive and academic skills using age-appropriate measures, such as WISC/WAIS and Woodcock–Johnson or WIAT where indicated.

Written Report

Receive findings, diagnostic conclusions where supported, and individualised recommendations for learning support.

Feedback Session

Review the results with your psychologist and discuss useful next steps for school, study, work or further support.

The assessment pathway and testing tools are tailored to the individual. An assessment does not guarantee a particular diagnosis.

Frequently asked questions

Dyslexia & Learning Assessment FAQs

Is there a waitlist for dyslexia assessments?

We currently advertise no waitlist for learning assessments. Contact reception to confirm the earliest available appointment with a suitable psychologist in Brisbane or Mooloolaba.

Do you assess children, teenagers and adults?

Yes. Our team offers learning assessments across age groups, although individual psychologists have different age ranges and assessment specialities. Reception can help match you with the right practitioner.

What is included in a dyslexia assessment?

Depending on the presenting concerns, assessment may include an intake interview, review of educational history, standardised cognitive and academic testing, a written report and a feedback consultation.

What tests are used?

Depending on age and clinical needs, psychologists may use WISC or WAIS cognitive measures and standardised academic measures such as Woodcock–Johnson or WIAT. Your psychologist will choose appropriate tools.

Do I need a GP referral?

No referral is generally needed to book a private learning assessment. Ask our team about referral requirements for any particular funding arrangement.

Can I use Medicare or NDIS funding?

Private learning assessments are not automatically eligible for Medicare rebates. Some related consultations may qualify under specific referral and item requirements. NDIS funding depends on plan goals, funding rules and the nature of the service; self-managed or plan-managed participants should check eligibility before booking.

Will the report help my child's school?

Assessment reports can explain a student's learning profile and recommend reasonable adjustments or targeted support. Decisions about school adjustments and eligibility remain with the relevant school or education provider.

How much does an assessment cost?

Fees depend on the assessment type and number of sessions required. Our reception team can explain the proposed assessment pathway and provide a quote before booking.
