Child Psychologist Sunshine Coast
Children and teenagers often need a different therapeutic approach to adults. Feeling comfortable, understood and safe with their practitioner can make it easier for a young person to engage in therapy.
Our Sunshine Coast child Psychology team works with children, teenagers and families from Mooloolaba and Caloundra, as well as by telehealth where appropriate. We take time to understand your child’s age, personality, needs and the type of support you are seeking before helping you choose a practitioner.
Sessions may focus on emotional wellbeing, behaviour, school stress, confidence, anxiety, neurodivergence, family changes, grief, social difficulties or other challenges affecting day-to-day life.
How child therapy can look
Depending on age, development, goals and the practitioner’s approach, therapy may include talking alongside creative, interactive or play-based strategies.
Reasons families seek support
Every child is different. Support is tailored to the young person rather than treating a diagnosis or difficulty as the whole story.
Support with fears, worry, panic, separation anxiety, school anxiety or feeling overwhelmed.
Helping children identify emotions, understand triggers and practise more helpful ways of responding.
Therapeutic support and assessment pathways where attention, impulsivity or executive functioning are concerns. Learn about ADHD psychology and assessments.
Neurodiversity-affirming support and assessment options with appropriately trained practitioners. Learn about Autism assessments.
Support for school avoidance, learning-related stress, confidence and adjustment difficulties. We also offer learning, dyslexia and dyscalculia assessments with selected Psychologists.
Support with confidence, shyness, peer relationships, bullying and social situations.
Support through parental separation, blended families, relocation and transitions.
Age-appropriate psychological support following bereavement or significant change.
Teen psychologist Sunshine Coast
Adolescence can bring rapid change in identity, relationships, school expectations, independence and emotional wellbeing.
Our Psychologists work with teenagers experiencing anxiety, low mood, friendship difficulties, school stress, exam pressure, neurodivergence, confidence concerns, family conflict, identity questions, grief and major life transitions.
Teenagers may also seek support for perfectionism, emotional overwhelm, motivation, social withdrawal, relationship changes, bullying, school transitions, study pressure and preparing for greater independence. Where relevant, families can also explore our ADHD psychology and assessment options or Autism assessment pathway. Therapy aims to provide a respectful, collaborative and age-appropriate space rather than something that feels overly clinical.
For parents, our team can also explain how confidentiality works for adolescents and how parents or caregivers may be involved in care while still respecting the young person’s privacy and therapeutic relationship.

A team that wants to help
Young people do best when they feel understood, respected and supported in a way that fits their age and stage of development.
Our team works with both children and teenagers, and we know the needs of a 7-year-old can look very different from those of a 15-year-old. Younger children may benefit from more play-based and visual approaches, while teenagers often prefer a more collaborative and conversational style.
Where clinically appropriate, Psychologists may involve parents or caregivers and collaborate with GPs, paediatricians or other treating professionals.

Hi, I’m Suzi Le Fanue, co-founder of Integrated Wellness Clinic. I’m a Naturopath by profession with a Bachelor of Science (Biomedical Science), and as a mum I care deeply about creating healthcare spaces where children and families feel welcomed rather than intimidated.
While Psychology isn’t my profession, supporting children’s wellbeing has become especially meaningful to me through my own experiences as a parent. I want families coming into our clinics to feel listened to, supported and confident that we will take the time to help them find the right practitioner.
